Cleanout in Charlotte
Garage, Attic & Crawlspace
Cleanout in Charlotte
Here in the Carolinas the house has a garage, an attic and a crawlspace — no basement — so that's exactly the job we do. A two-car garage you can finally park in, an attic emptied of a decade of bins, the crawlspace cleared out, all at a flat truck-fill price from $241 quoted from one photo. We load straight from the home into the truck — nothing ever sits at the curb, which keeps you clear of both HOA rules and the city's slow pickup. Same-day when a slot's open, and no NC sales tax on the service.
The Carolina cleanout: garage, attic and crawlspace
If you've moved to Charlotte from up north, the first thing you notice is there's no basement to dump things in. Homes across Mecklenburg sit on slabs and crawlspaces, so the clutter migrates somewhere else — the two-car garage fills with boxes until the cars live in the driveway, the attic stacks up with holiday bins and the furniture that got demoted, and the crawlspace collects whatever nobody wanted to carry back up. That trio is the residential signature job in this market, and we clear all three in a single visit, priced as one flat truck-fill from a photo. We say "attic and crawlspace," not "basement," because we actually work these houses — and yes, we'll go into the crawlspace to pull out what's down there.
How a Charlotte garage cleanout works
1 · Send a photo
Open the garage door — or point the camera up the attic stairs — and snap one wide shot. You get an exact flat truck-fill price back in seconds, with no in-home estimate and no waiting on a sales visit.
2 · Pick a window
Choose a time — same or next day is often open across the metro. Tell us if you're staging to list or on a relocation date and we'll slot it in.
3 · We load from the home
A vetted, insured crew backs into the driveway and carries it all out — garage, attic and crawlspace. Nothing is staged at the curb, the floor is swept, and usable gear is donated.
How much does a garage cleanout cost in Charlotte?
A garage, attic or crawlspace is priced flat as truck-fill — how much space it takes in the truck, quoted from your photo before anyone drives, with loading, sweep-out and disposal already baked into the number. For comparison, national cost guides put a full garage cleanout with a traditional hauler at roughly $400–$800 after a minimum and an in-home estimate visit. Ours starts at a flat $241 for a quarter load, and a packed double garage that fills a whole truck tops out at $732.
| How full | Flat price |
|---|---|
| Quarter truck (a corner or a single bay of clutter) | $241 |
| Half truck (one full bay) | $431 |
| Three-quarter truck | $587 |
| Full truck (a packed two-car garage) | $732 |
$75 minimum for a small load. A garage plus attic plus crawlspace, or a whole home downsizing, simply takes more than one truck — we price the total flat from your photos. An old fridge ($164), a washer ($133), a water heater ($131), a treadmill ($115), a riding mower and a wall of metal shelving are all part of the fill, with no per-item surcharge. No NC sales tax on the service — the flat price is all-in.
4 ways to clear out a garage in Charlotte
| Option | Cost | Speed | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| City of Charlotte bulky pickup | Free | Up to ~5 business days | By appointment, curbside-only, at the curb by 6 AM, small heavy pieces under 75 lb, and no TVs, electronics, C&D or HVAC — much of what fills a garage. Most suburban HOAs won't let it sit at the curb at all |
| Rent a dumpster | $350–500+ | Days on the driveway | You load every box, mower and appliance yourself, it sits in the driveway (often against HOA rules), and you still handle the sort and the drive |
| Self-haul to a county D&R center | Free–low | Multiple trips | Free for county residents at Foxhole, Hickory Grove, Compost Central or North Mecklenburg — but you need a truck, the muscle and several runs to empty a full garage |
| JunkRabbit | From $241 flat | Same/next day | None — photo quote, loaded from the home, nothing at the curb, you lift nothing |
Does the City of Charlotte pick up a garage full of stuff?
Not in any way that helps with a real garage. City of Charlotte Solid Waste runs a free curbside bulky pickup, but it's by appointment with up to about five business days to wait, everything has to be at the curb by 6:00 AM on the scheduled day with three feet of clearance from carts and mailboxes, small heavy items are capped near 75 pounds, and it won't take TVs, computers, construction or demolition debris, or HVAC units — a big share of what actually lives in a garage or attic. You book it through CharMeck 311 (704-336-7600) or servicerequest.charlottenc.gov.
Two more things make it a non-starter for most of our customers. First, if you're in one of the towns — Matthews, Mint Hill, Pineville, Huntersville, Cornelius or Davidson — you're not on the city program at all; each town runs its own collection with its own rules. Second, if you're in an HOA subdivision, a garage's worth of furniture and boxes isn't allowed to sit at the curb for a five-day window in the first place. So the "free" option either doesn't apply to you or doesn't fit your street. We clear the whole garage, attic and crawlspace in one trip, same or next day, loaded straight from the home.
What comes out of a Charlotte garage, attic and crawlspace
- The garage backlog — cardboard mountains, old paint, bikes, sports gear, holiday bins and the boxes that never got unpacked after the move.
- Furniture in storage — the dresser ($126), sofa ($126) or dining set that got demoted to the garage or attic when the new one arrived.
- Appliances — an old fridge, washer, dryer or water heater from a swap; we handle the freon-refrigerant units the EPA-certified way.
- Yard & workshop gear — a riding or push mower, grill, smoker, workbench, metal shelving and hand tools.
- Attic loads — decades of bins, an old crib or bed frame, and the "we'll deal with it later" pile under the eaves.
- Crawlspace pulls — damp cardboard, leftover flooring and materials, and whatever got tucked under the house — we go in and pull it out.
- New-build move-in debris — the packing crates, flattened boxes, foam and offcuts left after a fresh closing.
What happens to it after we load up
Anything still usable is routed to donation — Habitat for Humanity ReStore (Charlotte Region), Goodwill of the Southern Piedmont, The Salvation Army and the Crisis Assistance Ministry Furniture Bank — so a good tool chest, bike or dresser furnishes another Charlotte household instead of a landfill, and we can leave a receipt where it helps. Metal shelving, appliances and scrap are recycled, and the remainder goes to one of Mecklenburg County's four disposal and recycling centers — Foxhole in the south, Hickory Grove in the east, Compost Central centrally, or North Mecklenburg up in Huntersville. County disposal here is genuinely cheap and we divert what we can, which is exactly why the flat truck-fill price holds — no separate dump fee tacked on at the end, and no NC sales tax on top.
Loaded from the home, never the curb
The dominant access rule across suburban Charlotte isn't a freight elevator — it's the HOA curb-staging restriction. Leave a garage's worth of junk at the curb waiting on the city's five-day window and you're courting a covenant letter in Ballantyne, Steele Creek, Highland Creek or Huntersville. Our whole model sidesteps that: the crew backs into the driveway and we carry every piece out of the garage, down from the attic and out of the crawlspace straight into the truck. Nothing is dragged to the curb, nothing sits overnight, and the community never sees a pile. Access here is easy almost everywhere — flat driveways, two-car garages, one- or two-story homes, no basements and few walk-ups — so the flat price reflects a smooth job, not a surcharge-hunt. That low-friction access is a real Charlotte advantage, and we price around it instead of padding for it.
When Charlotte calls us for a garage cleanout
- Getting the house list-ready — a clean, empty garage and attic show far better, and we can turn it the same week for the listing photos.
- Corporate relocation — a finance or tech family transferring in or out of the Ballantyne or University Research Park corridor needs the garage and house cleared on the movers' date.
- New-build move-in — clearing packing debris and leftover materials after a Steele Creek, Highland Creek or Huntersville closing.
- Reclaiming the parking — years of accumulation finally cleared so two cars actually fit again.
- Downsizing & aging in place — an empty-nester in Cotswold or Providence clearing the garage, attic and a few rooms before moving to something smaller.
- Estate & family homes — clearing a parent's garage and attic as part of a whole-home cleanout.

What Charlotte homeowners say
"New build in Berewick and the garage was wall-to-wall boxes and foam after closing. One photo, flat price, and they cleared the garage and the attic the next morning — loaded straight from the house, nothing at the curb for the HOA. First weekend both cars fit."
"Downsizing my parents' ranch off Randolph. They actually went into the crawlspace and pulled out old flooring and damp boxes nobody had touched in years, plus the whole garage and attic. Fair flat quote from pictures, no tax added at the end."
"Twenty years of a two-car garage in Matthews — dead fridge, an old mower, shelves of paint. They took the fridge with the freon and every bit of it in one truck. Booked from a photo, done next day, no curb pile for the neighbors."
Charlotte garage cleanout questions, answered
How much does a garage cleanout cost in Charlotte?
Flat as truck-fill from a photo: quarter $241, half $431, three-quarter $587, full $732, more trucks for a garage plus attic and crawlspace or a whole home. Small loads meet the $75 minimum. Loading, sweep-out and disposal included, no NC sales tax.
Do you clear attics and crawlspaces — we don't have basements here?
Yes. Charlotte homes have garages, attics and crawlspaces instead of basements, and we clear all three in one visit, priced together as a single flat truck-fill. We'll go into the crawlspace and pull out what's down there.
Will you leave anything at the curb for my HOA?
No. We load straight from the garage, attic and crawlspace into the truck and haul it in one trip, so nothing is ever staged at the curb — no covenant violation and no five-day city wait.
Do you take old appliances and a mower?
Yes — a fridge (freon handled the EPA-certified way), washer, dryer, water heater, riding or push mower, grill and metal shelving are all part of the truck-fill, no per-item surcharge.
What happens to everything?
Usable gear is donated (Habitat ReStore, Goodwill of the Southern Piedmont, Salvation Army, Crisis Assistance Ministry Furniture Bank); metal and appliances are recycled; the rest goes to a county D&R center — Foxhole, Hickory Grove, Compost Central or North Mecklenburg.
How does it compare to a traditional hauler?
They run roughly $400–$800 for a full garage after a minimum and an estimate visit. Ours is flat from $241, quoted from a photo, no visit, no NC sales tax, loaded from the home.
