UNC Charlotte Move-Out
Junk Removal
Dorm closing or lease ending in University City? We haul the mattress, futon, mini-fridge and cheap furniture you're not driving home — from $82 for a twin mattress, or a whole apartment as a flat truck-fill from $241. Book ahead for the noon Friday May 8 dorm deadline and the 9am Sunday May 10 senior deadline so you're out before the $100-a-day penalty starts. Same-day during move week, carried down from any floor, no NC sales tax.
The 2026 move-out clock — and the $100/day penalty
UNC Charlotte is roughly 30,000 students, and in early May they all clear out of University City at once. Housing & Residence Life sets a hard schedule: non-graduating students must be out of the residence halls by noon on Friday, May 8, 2026, and graduating seniors have until 9:00 AM on Sunday, May 10. Stay past your deadline and the university charges $100 per day — so the mattress, futon and mini-fridge you don't want to haul back to Raleigh or Atlanta genuinely have to be gone, not just pushed into the hallway. The dorm dumpsters overflow by Thursday and the good donation spots fill up fast. Booking a haul ahead of your deadline is the easy way to walk out clean and on time.
How much does move-out junk removal cost near UNC Charlotte?
Two ways to price it. Grab a few pieces by the item, or — if you're clearing a whole apartment with roommates — price the pile flat as truck-fill, which is almost always cheaper per person. Either way it's quoted from a photo before we come, disposal included, no surprise fees.
| Item | Flat price |
|---|---|
| Twin mattress | $82 |
| Full mattress | $94 |
| Box spring | $92 |
| Futon | $111 |
| Mini-fridge | $115 |
| Desk | $83 |
| Dresser | $126 |
| Sofa / couch | $126 |
| Whole apartment — quarter truck | $241 |
| Whole apartment — half truck | $431 |
$75 minimum. Roommates should combine everything into one truck-fill and split it — one photo of the full pile gets the group price. Disposal is included, and North Carolina charges no sales tax on the service, so the flat price is the whole price.
The classic UNCC move-out pile
- Mattresses & box springs — the twin or full from the dorm bed, or the queen from an off-campus apartment.
- Futons & cheap couches — the hand-me-down futon or the $149 living-room couch nobody's driving home.
- Mini-fridges & microwaves — the dorm-room combo that's not worth shipping.
- Particle-board furniture — the desk, dresser, shelf and TV stand that won't survive another move.
- The last-day trash pile — bags of stuff, a broken lamp, a rug, a fan, and everything that didn't fit in the car.
- Whole off-campus apartments — a full lease-end clear-out when the whole unit turns over.
Dorms, student high-rises and off-campus leases
Whether you're in a residence hall on campus, one of the University City student high-rises, or an off-campus apartment out toward University Research Park, the move is the same and so is our service — we carry it down from your floor so nobody's wrestling a mattress into a dumpster at midnight. For a shared apartment, the cheapest route is a group haul: everyone stacks their mattresses, futons, mini-fridges and furniture together, we price the whole pile as one flat truck-fill, and you split it four or five ways. Parents booking from out of town get the same flat photo quote and can pay remotely — a lot of our move-week jobs are set up by a parent while the student's in finals.
Where the good stuff goes
A dorm's worth of barely-used furniture shouldn't go straight to a landfill, and it doesn't have to. Still-usable furniture, mini-fridges, lamps and household goods are routed to Goodwill of the Southern Piedmont, Habitat for Humanity ReStore and the Crisis Assistance Ministry Furniture Bank, where they help another student or a family furnishing a first apartment. Mattresses are recycled where possible rather than dumped, and whatever's left goes to a Mecklenburg County disposal and recycling center. Diverting the reusable stuff is better for University City and keeps the flat price honest — there's no separate dump fee added at the end.
Not just UNC Charlotte
University City is the big May wave, but it isn't the only one. We run the same flat photo pricing for the smaller move-outs across the metro — Queens University of Charlotte in Myers Park, Johnson C. Smith University near Uptown, Davidson College up at the north tip of the county, and the Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) campuses. Same-day mattress, futon and furniture hauls, carried down from the room, wherever the semester's ending.
Why UNCC students & parents choose JunkRabbit

- We carry it down — from any dorm or apartment floor; you don't drag anything to a dumpster.
- Group-friendly — roommates split one truck-fill; parents book and pay remotely.
What UNCC students & families say
"Moved out of my dorm the Friday of finals week and did not want to haul a mattress and mini-fridge to Charleston. Booked from a photo, they came same day and carried it all down from the fourth floor. Out before the noon deadline, no penalty."
"Four of us in an off-campus apartment off Harris Blvd. We stacked all our beds, the futon and two mini-fridges in the living room, sent one photo, and split one flat truck price four ways. Way cheaper than a dumpster and they did the carrying."
"I booked it for my son from out of state while he was in exams. Flat quote up front, paid on my phone, and they cleared his apartment and donated the good furniture. Nothing added at the end — no tax, no surprise fee."
