UNC Charlotte Move-Out
Junk Removal

About 30,000 students empty University City every May, and 2026 has a hard clock: dorms must be cleared by noon Friday, May 8, and graduating seniors by 9:00 AM Sunday, May 10 — with a $100-a-day charge for anyone who lingers. We come during the crush and haul the mattresses, futons, mini-fridges and cheap furniture out of the dorm, the high-rise or the off-campus apartment, same-day, on one flat photo-quoted price. ZIPs 28213 / 28262 / 28269.

The May 8–10 move-out clock

University City runs on UNC Charlotte's calendar, and the end of spring semester is the tightest window of the year. In 2026 the university's Housing & Residence Life deadlines are firm: non-graduating residents out of the residence halls by noon on Friday, May 8, and graduating seniors by 9:00 AM on Sunday, May 10, with a $100-per-day penalty for staying past the deadline. Thousands of students hit those two dates at once, which is why the loading docks, dumpster corrals and apartment breezeways along North Tryon fill up with beds, futons, mini-fridges and IKEA furniture faster than anyone can move them.

That is exactly the window we are built for. Send a photo of what has to go, get one flat number that already covers the labor, the truck, the drive and the dump fees, and we carry it out of the room — you never drag a mattress down a stairwell or leave it to earn a fine. Because North Carolina doesn't tax the service, the flat price is the whole price, with no sales-tax line at the end. Book a few days out if you can; walk-ups during move week we fit in same-day whenever a truck is free.

Dorms & student high-rises

On-campus rooms and the student towers along University City Boulevard produce the same short list every May: a mattress and box spring, a futon, a mini-fridge, a cheap dresser or desk chair, and a pile of leave-behind junk. We take all of it in one trip, work around the building's elevator and dock rules, and get the room ready for the RA walkthrough before the deadline hits.

Off-campus apartments & rental houses

Off-campus leases turn over on the same clock, out through the apartment complexes and rental houses toward Highland Creek and the 28269 belt. Here the job is often a whole-unit clear — the last tenant's furniture, mattresses and kitchen cast-offs — scoped from photos and priced as a flat truck-fill so the landlord gets it back broom-clean fast.

University Research Park office furniture

University City isn't only students. In University Research Park we run an office-furniture lane — desks, office chairs, cubicles, filing cabinets, conference tables and monitors — hauled after hours when it keeps the workday clear, with the electronics diverted to a certified e-recycler because NC bans them from the landfill.

Why not just leave it at the curb?

City of Charlotte Solid Waste does run a free curbside bulky pickup, but the rules make it useless on a move-out deadline. You have to book an appointment (311 / 704-336-7600 or servicerequest.charlottenc.gov) and allow up to about five business days; the item has to be at the curb by 6:00 AM, three feet clear of everything, under 75 pounds for small heavy pieces; and the city won't take TVs, electronics or construction debris at all. A five-day clock doesn't help when housing needs the room empty by Friday noon or the fine starts — and most student complexes forbid dumping furniture by the dumpster in the first place. We carry it out the same day, take the electronics the city refuses, and leave nothing behind to get you charged.

What University City customers say

★★★★★

"My son had to be out of his dorm by noon Friday and we were staring at a mattress, a mini-fridge and a futon with no way home. Sent a photo the night before, they came at 9 and it was gone by 9:20. Flat price, no fine."

— Denise W., University City parent
★★★★★

"Four of us split a house off Mallard Creek. We piled all our beds and junk in the driveway, got one truck-fill quote, and split it four ways. Way cheaper than each of us paying a minimum. Same-day during finals week too."

— Jordan M., UNCC senior
★★★★★

"We downsized an office in the Research Park and needed cubicles and old monitors gone after hours. They handled the e-waste recycling and gave me one flat number up front. Clean, professional, no surprises."

— Priya N., University Research Park
