Bed frame disposal in Charlotte

The short answer

Minimum per visit is $75, so a single $68 metal frame on its own comes in at the minimum. Pair it with the mattress and that stops mattering: a mattress and box spring set at $143 plus a frame at $68 is $143 + $68 = $211.

Which category is your frame in

The split is about mass and how it comes apart.

$68 — metal, standard or platform. A bolt-together steel rail frame, a wire platform, a simple slatted base. Light, disassembles quickly, one person can carry the pieces.

$126 or $152 — solid wood, upholstered or storage. A solid headboard and footboard with side rails, an upholstered platform bed, or one of the storage beds with drawers built into the base. These are genuinely heavy, the drawer units are separate weight of their own, and upholstered frames do not disassemble as far as people expect.

$118 — adjustable base. Motor, transformer, steel frame, and often a power cord tied into the head end. Heavier than any flat frame and it does not fold small.

The Charlotte version of this problem

There are almost no basements in this region. The Piedmont's red clay meant slab and crawlspace construction, so every bedroom in this city is on the ground floor or upstairs, and the spare ones are upstairs.

That is what makes frames awkward here. The route out of a Charlotte bedroom is almost always one of:

• The narrow stair with a turn at the top in a 1920s Dilworth, Elizabeth, Wilmore or NoDa bungalow, built for furniture that was assembled in the room.
• The single stair to the bonus room over the garage, standard from Highland Creek and Steele Creek out to Waxhaw and Indian Trail, where a guest bed or a daybed has sat since the house was new.
• Three flights of exterior stairs in a University City or Steele Creek garden complex with no elevator at all.

Carry-down is included at every one of those. There is no stair charge and no walk-up charge.

The first-apartment flat-pack frame

Charlotte takes in new households continuously, and the standard first stop is a twelve-month lease in South End, University City or Steele Creek. The bed bought for that apartment is almost always a flat-pack metal or platform frame, chosen because it was cheap and it shipped.

It does not survive the second move. The cam locks strip, the particleboard slats bow, and by the time the household is moving to a house in Matthews or Fort Mill the frame is visibly done. That is the $68 item, and it is the single most common frame we remove in this city.

Do not put it beside the apartment dumpster corral. Bulk items sit outside the property's collection contract and the cost comes back to the resident, usually off the deposit.

King frames in the new-build belt

The opposite end. The primary bedrooms in the newer Waxhaw, Weddington, Indian Trail, Ballantyne and Fort Mill houses were built for a king bed, and a lot of them have an upholstered or storage king frame in them — $152 to remove.

Two things about those. The headboard on an upholstered king is frequently wider than the bedroom door, which is fine because it unbolts, but it is not something to discover at 7pm on moving day. And storage frames have drawer boxes that have to come out before the base can move, and those drawers are usually still full.

Empty them before the pickup. It is the one piece of prep that genuinely saves time.

Bunk beds and the kids' rooms

A standard bunk bed is $123; solid wood or a loft bed is $148. These cluster in the family subdivisions and they come out in a wave when the children hit a certain age.

Bunk beds are the frame most likely to have been assembled in the room and never moved since. Hardware seizes, bolt heads round off, and the top bunk rails are long enough that they do not make the turn on a bonus-room stair intact. The crew brings the tools and takes it apart in the room — included in the price, not extra.

A bunk bed plus the two twin mattresses off it is $123 + $82 + $82 = $287.

Can you get rid of it for free?

Sometimes, and it is worth ten minutes.

Solid wood frames in good condition donate and sell reasonably well here, particularly anything from the mid-century ranch stock in Cotswold, Sedgefield or Starmount.

Metal and flat-pack frames rarely do. A bent, stripped frame is not something a donation site will accept, and the free-listing crowd wants it delivered.

Cribs are the exception to everything. Safety standards have changed and older cribs are generally not accepted for donation or resale at all. That one is $67 and it goes on the truck.

Do not stage any of it outside while you wait for a taker. A Charlotte afternoon storm plus this humidity finishes upholstered and particleboard pieces overnight.
